Veronica Casundra Sherrese Calbourne
July 3, 1965 - April 8, 2022
Veronica Casundra Sherrese Howard Calbourne was born on July 3, 1965 in Hobbs, New Mexico. Family and loved ones knew her as "Pretty Sherri", "Sherri", and "Ms. V". In 1975 her family decided to plant roots in Portland, Oregon where she graduated from Jefferson High School Class of '83. After high school Veronica earned her CNA license and began her career in healthcare. She then relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia in 1994 with her children where she continued to work as a healthcare professional. Conditions in life brought Sherrie back to Portland, Oregon in 2003 caring for her mother that entered eternal rest in 2005. After family matters, Veronica left Portland, Oregon permanently in 2009 and settled in Houston, Texas. She then transitioned careers from a healthcare professional to working in sales as a Customer service Rep. Sherri was also a survivor of both Hurricane Harvey and Imelda. And through it all she was resilient. On April 7, 2022, Veronica "Pretty Sherri" Calbourne unexpectedly passed away. She was predeceased by: Mother, Thelma Ann "Gree" Heckard, Jul. 30, 1945 -Jan 7 2005 Brother, Gary Jerome Cobbin, Oct. 12, 1973 -Nov. 30, 1988 Father, Harry Howard, Sep. 29, 1945 -Feb. 4, 2014 She is Survived by: One son, Marquise Howard. Although her departure was shocking and heartbreaking, her children described her as a straightforward kind of woman and "always talking ish". She made sacrifices for her children. She loved her children and loved being a grandma just as much. Her friends described Her as a caring person. She loved soul music, going to clubs and having a good time. A close friend recalls them sneaking off to Seattle in their early 20's to a nightclub and trying to rush back home in Portland, Oregon before Veronica's former spouse returned home from work. "He was waiting on the porch and we just walked right passed him through the front door while he was hootin and hollering. She just loved having a good time and we always did. She also taught me how to make gravy from scratch and the perfect over easy eggs." Veronica was loved by many family members, friends and colleagues. In her own words, "Please don't do me! I can pick my own shade tree to sit under!" You'll be truly missed Pretty Sherri. Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, 2022, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Felix H. Morales Funeral Home, Houston, Texas.
