Ernest "Ernie" Martinez, 73, entered the Holy Kingdom on July 2, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. He was born on September 16, 1948, in Houston, TX, to Conception Gil and Francisco Hernandez Martinez. Ernie proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and fought for his country during the Vietnam War. He loved working on cars and was a drummer in several bands during his young adulthood. He enjoyed spending time with family, and after his retirement he loved to frequent casinos. He served as a mentor to many and loved to teach others. He was loved greatly by his family and his love for his family was unsurpassing. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by the mother of his children, Mary Mata, of Houston, TX; daughter, Valerie Martinez of Stafford, TX; son, Ernest Martinez II of Houston, TX; Grandsons, Rodney Jones II and Ryan Jones of Stafford, TX; brothers Armando and Joe Martinez; and sister, Diane Salas. He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Rodney Jones. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Felix H. Morales Funeral Home, Houston, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm. Inurnment will be at Houston National Cemetery on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 11:15 am. Individuals at increased risk, sick or not feeling well should not attend the service.
